Seven killed in police shootout

Seven suspects were killed last night after the police followed information of a gang that could possibly have been responsible for the killing of police officers in Ngcobo on Wednesday.

An unknown number of suspects managed to escape and are currently being sought by the police, while ten were arrested.

Police spokeswoman colonel Sibongile Soci indicated in a statement that the group used a church as a hiding place and were cornered by the police.

The multi disciplinary team tasked to investigate the murders of the five police officers and a civilian from Ngcobo, made a major breakthrough after they fatally shot seven suspects in a shootout with the police. Several firearms were confiscated, a police officer was injured and is recovering in hospital..”

The task team which comprises of the Hawks,  Detectives, Crime Intelligence, the Task Force, National Intervention Unit and the Tactical Response Team are investigation the murders of five police officers and civilian which were killed by a group of armed robbers who entered Ngcobo police station and opened fire.
