THREE police members attached to the North West tracing team died after colliding with a stray horse between Mthatha and Ngcobo shortly after midnight.
The members were on their way to join the task team investigating the recent attack on the police in Ngcobo where five SAPS members and a retired soldier were killed.
A fourth member of the tracing team who was in the vehicle was in a critical condition in Mthatha hospital this morning.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
