On this day, 25 years ago The Rep reported the view of former uMkhonto Wesizwe commander, Thenjiwe Mtintso, on the killing of Chris Hani as “Chris Hani represented all people of South Africa who wanted peace but the government had misinformed the White community about the character of Mr Haniand this had led to his killing.” Mtintso was addressing 6 000 people who gathered on the Hexagon to attend a memorial service for Hani.

Hani was leader of the Communist Party and chief of staff of Umkhonto Wesizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress.
