Celebrate Freedom Day on April 27

Date:

ON Friday, April 27, South Africa will be celebrating Freedom Day.

It is far more than a public holiday. It looks back on a monumental event in the country’s history – the first democratic elections which was held on April 27, 1994.

On this day, 24 years ago, queues of people cast their votes at polling stations all over the country. The ANC was voted into power with the late Nelson Mandela inaugurated as President on May 10, 1994.
