WHILE some Eastern Cape dams have shown a slight improvement, the department of water and sanitation is concerned about the Nelson Mandela Bay water supply which has been badly affected by the drought.
The dam levels of the metro are currently low. “Impofu Dam is at 35.8% followed by Kouga Dam at 10%. Loerie Dam has shown a significant improvement at 92.9% compared to 35.4% at this time last year”.
Mean while the rest of the Eastern Cape dams were reported to have improved from the past week rainfall.
The report said, “Most dams in the eastern part of the province have improved. Tthe Amathole Water Supply System is at 92.2% compared to 71.0% at the same time last year. Xilinxa Dam has also shown great improvement at 60.8% compared to 3.6% last year.”
The department appealed to all residents to save water and adhere to water restrictions and will continue to monitor dam levels in the province to improve water security.
