The current average dam levels of the province is sitting at 65, 5%, registering a decline of 0, 6% from last week’s average of 66, 1%.
The continued lack of sufficient rainfall during this season is worsening the situation that is currently facing the communities of Nelson Mandela Bay. The rapid declining dam water levels are experienced by the reservoirs under Algoa Water Supply System such as the Kouga Dam, Impofu Dam and Loerie Dam.
Kouga Dam has decreased by 0, 3% from 8, 5% to 8, 3% this week. Impofu Dam shows a decrease of 0, 8% from 33, 5% to 32, 7% this week. The Loerie Dam recorded a minor decline.
This week the Loerie Dam stood at 88, 5%, compared to last week’s 92, 6%.
The Amathole Water Supply System – with major dams serving Buffalo City Metro such as Nahoon Dam, Laing Dam and Bridle Drift Dam – remain steady above 80% dam water levels. It is followed by Xilinxa Dam at 56, 1% this week, showing a decline of 3, 4% from last week’s 59, 5% Picture: FILE
