The situation in Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere) which falls under the Emalahleni Municipality remains tense, police have indicated.
Tyres were set alight in the town and in neighbouring Dordrecht last night following service delivery dissatisfaction in the municipal area.
Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni confirmed that a group of about 500 people had blockaded entrances and exits to Cacadu.
It was anticipated that a provincial government official would be meeting with the protesters today to listen to their grievances although police are currently not able to say who would be speaking to the group or when.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the protest action.
