UNREST continued in Dordrecht and Cacadu last night as large groups of residents called for provincial intervention in ensuring service delivery in the Emalahleni municipal area.

Tyres were set alight and roads blockaded as trucks turned back from outside the towns.

Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni reported that four suspects had been arrested for public violence and destruction of essential infrastructure and would appear before the Lady Frere Magistrate’s Court soon.

Reports of teargas being fired at crowds were received as extra police were deployed overnight to monitor the situation.

By early today, indications were that protesters were still waiting for the provincial government to meet with them on their grievances. Businesses remain closed for the second consecutive day.

Motorists are cautioned not to travel in the area.
