FORMER workers of Water and Sanitation Services South Africa have returned to work after briefly downing tools.
Several residential areas were without water this morning with reports indicating that this was due to the workers’ protest action.
The Chris Hani District Municipality took over the WSSA staff and functions last year with CHDM spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo confirming that workers had downed tools due to dissatisfaction over labour-related issues including full integration and related benefits.
Mqamelo said the workers had wanted clarity on said issues at the end of June, which marked a year since their transfers.
A meeting had been held and workers had returned to work with another meeting set to take place tomorrow.
