THE DA will be laying charges of corruption, fraud and contravention of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Municipal Systems Act and Municipal Structures Act against current and former officials and Councillors of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) tomorrow.

In a statement today, DA MP and Enoch Mgijima constituency leader Terri Stander said those to be charged would include the current executive mayor Sisisi Tolashe and two former mayors, four municipal managers, four chief financial officers and 10 councillors.
She said despite the DA’s best efforts, the MEC for Cooperate Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Fikile Xasa, had not placed the municipality under provincial administration despite requests to do so.
“The DA is left with no choice but to lay criminal charges against, not limited to, 20 persons implicated in rampant fraud, corruption and legislative contraventions.”
The charges will be laid at the Queenstown Police Station at 9am tomorrow.
