CHDM speaks on Dordrecht water challenges

THE Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) has indicated that while Dordrecht dam levels were “somewhat favourable” at present, high domestic water losses in areas like Zwelethemba had necessitated restrictions.

CHDM spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo said as losses were attributed to excessive leaks inside households “as soon as water is open in these areas, a sizeable number of kilo litres goes to waste.”

Awareness campaigns were being undertaken to educate the community on water conservation and the fixing of leakages inside their yards.

Some areas, which include the town, were not affected by the restriction.

Responding to a query of a sewage spill into the pan outside the town, she said work was underway to repair a malfunctioning pump.
