Female employees from the education department marched to the Chris Hani District Municipality to handover a petition as part of a build-up campaign against gender based violence recently.The campaign will be taking placing in Port Elizabeth tomorrow.
The women pledged solidarity in the fight against abuse, inequality, sex for jobs, women trafficking, women killings and rape.The march started at the department’s building along the N6.
The petition was received by corporate services portfolio head Mtetunzima Jack and councillor Zanele Koni.The department was also joined by other districts department’s in the provinces which conducted their own separate marches within their districts.
District assistant director Madoda Ndembe said the event was a great success.
“We were targeting only a hundred women to raise awareness against abuse because it was a normal working day. Tomorrow the women will be joining the march in Port Elizabeth.”
