Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) Business Advisor for Export Relations Asisipho Fihlani and Export Relations Co-ordinator Linda Lubengu attended the Asia Fruit Logistica exhibition Wednesday in Hong Kong last week.
ECDC’s Siphokazi Mgudlwa said Asia Fruit Logistica was the best exhibition for fresh fruit and vegetable marketing in Asia.
The exhibition took place at the World Expo where the show celebrated its 11th anniversary with various visitors participating from different countries.
“The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) organised a South African pavilion at the show which hosted 18 companies from the country spanning from producers to promoters of fruit from the country. Asia is one of South Africa’s biggest markets for fresh fruit.”
Mgudlwa said exhibiting at the event was an ideal opportunity to promote the Eastern Cape’s produce.
The Eastern Cape is one of the three leading citrus producers in South Africa accounting for 26% of the country’s citrus land production in 2017.
“The ECDC promoted producers of fruit from the Eastern Cape at the show with other exhibitors promoting fruit from the rest of the country.”
She said more than 13 000 high-quality buyers and trade visitors from 76 countries attended the show last year. The 813 companies from 43 different countries exhibited their products and services at the trade fair.
” Indications are that the 2018 exhibition was a much bigger affair and it is expected that the final count will validate this estimate.”
