ConCourt orders Bathabile Dlamini to cough up for legal costs in social grants saga

Date:

The Constitutional Court on Thursday ordered former social development minister Bathabile Dlamini to pay 20% of the legal costs of Black Sash and Freedom Under Law.

The order stems from a court application to hold Dlamini personally liable for the social grants crisis that erupted last year.

Dlamini was accused of failing to appoint a contractor to replace Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) after that contract expired. As a result‚ the court was forced to extend CPS’s contract‚ which it had previously declared invalid‚ in order to ensure the payment of social grants to millions of South Africans.
