There is no timeframe yet for the return of the power supply to affected areas in Komani.

A section of the CBD including Cathcart Road, Prince Alfred Street, Grey Street and Ebden Street have been without power since last week. A section of the Westbourne, Madeira and Kings Park residential areas have also been without power for a week.

A community meeting is due to take place in the town hall at 5.30pm today to discuss the sad state of affairs which have led to several businesses closing their doors in the once busy Cathcart Road. Most other businesses are trying to remain open with the use of generators, but at great cost.

Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality spokesman Gcobani Msindwana told The Rep that work was underway to clear a space for a new transformer at the Western substation which would restore power to Westbourne and surrounds.

He said a technician from East London was awaited to join the cables which would return the power supply to the Grey Street, Ebden Street and Prince Alfred Street section.

No time frames had been given and although technicians were working, Msindwana said Local Government MEC Fikile Xasa was also in town and meeting with the municipality workers this afternoon. It is not known at present what discussions are about.

No timeframe for the return of power has been given but we will try our best to keep you updated.
