The executive mayor of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) Sisisi Tolashe said it has been with “deep regret” that the municipality had heard that a group of Sterkstroom residents had resorted to burning the municipal building of the Sterkstroom Satellite Office today.

“The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa provides for ways and means of resolving community matters as well as other enabling legislation, policies and regulations. Such acts must not be condoned as they seek to undermine and reverse the gains for which we have struggled.”
She said the actions pointed to criminality “and we urge our criminal justice system to bring to book all these negative elements that destroy our assets and we further condemn in the strongest possible terms that people must reason and use the appropriate measures to resolve such matters.”
Tolashe called for calm and said the EMLM leadership was available to engage in finding lasting solutions “so that things get back to normality.
“Again, on behalf of Council we apologise to our people who have been negatively affected by this impasse.”
She referred queries to Office of the Acting Municipal Manager, Donovan Van Wyk on (045) 807 2610.
