Unrest returns to Stutterheim

Date:

Unrest returned to Stutterheim this morning as protesters blocked the entrance road to Mlungisi in the town during the early morning hours.

The Amahlati municipal offices were gutted recently during a protest over youth unemployment.

Police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said protesters had blocked the road at 4am, using stones and burning tyres.

“The protest is related to a service delivery issue, the details which are not known.”

She said two suspects were taken into custody on public violence charges and would appear in the Stutterheim Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Public Order Policing Unit was in the town and monitoring the situation.
