Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle will tomorrow further intensify talks with the United States of America when he meets that country’s Consul General Virginia Blaser to discuss the possibility of USA spreading its HIV/Aids Programme to other areas in the Province. Currently USA supports the HIV/Aids Programmes in five districts that have been identified as having the highest HIV burden – Alfred Nzo, Amathole, Buffalo City Metropolitan, Chris Hani and OR Tambo Municipalities.
Blaser, together with the Premier, will also visit Empilweni Health Facility at Gompo Location tomorrow and on Wednesday will stop by the St. Gregory Health Welfare & HIV/AIDS Project and further participate in the YOLO Fun Day organized by St. Gregory Anglican Church in Mdantsane. MECs for Health and Social Development Helen Sauls-August and Phumza Dyantyi, respectively, will form part of the visit. The visits are aimed at looking into the operations, successes and challenges of the projects.
Masualle recently visited the US State of Texas to have discussions on shale gas technology as well as to consolidate and intensify relations on cooperation in the agricultural economy. The two regional governments agreed to granting access to the Eastern Cape to decades of research on fracking technology as well as collaborate on the skills transfer of the technology and on the developing the Eastern Cape’s shale gas industry.
