Cala tornado victims to be buried in a mass funeral

The five victims of the Manzimdaka Village tornado will be laid to rest in a mass funeral on October today in Cala, the service started at 09h00.

CHris hani District Municipality (CHDM) spokeswoman Thobeka Mqamelo said the government and business fraternity offered support towards the funeral arrangements by donating, amongst others, tombstones, coffins, building of graves, tent and catering.

“Mourners will include, national, members of the executive council in the provincial legislature, mayors, councilors and senior government officials

“The Chris Hani Disaster Management team, councilors and relevant stakeholders have been on site concluding on assessment and monitoring of processes towards the funeral, whilst the department of Social Development has been  providing support to the affected families.”

Mqamelo said the village was shook by at tornado, hail storm and strong winds on the night of September 30, leaving a trail of devastation and regrettable death of give people, three children and two adults.
