Man accused of raping pupil – case delayed

Date:

A taxi conductor accused of raping a former Hexagon High School pupil made his first appearance in the Komani regional court on Wednesday. This follows a decision made by the director of public prosecutions.

The Rep reported (“Rape case set for Komani court” January 24) that the accused, who is facing one count of rape, was arrested in August 2019. The accused had previously elected to abandon his bail application, but later made a formal bail application which was turned down on October 28.

He appeared before magistrate Lungisile Mahlati who indicated this week that the accused was entitled to legal representation of his own choice. In response, the accused elected to apply for legal aid. He was remanded in custody and will appear again on February 13 for the legal representative to gain access to the docket.
