On Wednesday an alleged mugger found himself finding justice at the hands of a mob.
The man, whom The Rep found lying outside the Gardens Clinic, was allegedly assaulted by various passersby after he allegedly tried to rob a young girl who was walking home from school.
According to Momelezi Mpemba, who saw the incident, it started near the train station where the girl was heard calling for help. Those who had been close to the incident intervened and started chasing the man.
The man allegedly had an accomplice who managed to escape, leaving him to face the music alone and he was assaulted in the vicinity of the Queenstown and Frontier Museum and the Public Gardens.
According to Mpemba when police intervened the mob left him bruised and with a bloody wound on the head.
While The Rep was at the scene the man was lying outside the clinic writhing in pain for almost 40 minutes in the custody of police.
Nurses from the clinic eventually took him, allegedly to the Frontier Hospital, after an ambulance failed to arrive.
At the time of going to print police spokesperson Namhla Mdleleni said no report had been made about the incident.
