Last night irate residents from the Van area threatened to burn down the budget and treasury building over electricity cuts.
Scores of police officers were at the scene and at 9pm, warrant officer Mzukisi Mdleleni negotiated with the crowd who demanded to speak with the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality executive mayor, Luleka Gubula.
“If you burn this building down it will no longer be a dispute between residents and the municipality. We will be forced to intervene as the Police,” said Mdleleni
Angry residents had piled tyres which were doused with petrol in front of the municipal premises around 9pm. Gubula arrived at the scene at 11:30pm to address the residents. Read full story in The Rep on Friday
