Inxuba Yethemba Municipality executive mayor, Ray Shweni and chief whip, Thembisile Bobo, have officially resigned.
This follows public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s report of irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure at the municipality.
Shweni and Bobo resigned at a council meeting in Cradock yesterday.
Mkhwebane had found the mayor along with ANC councillors guilty of misappropriating public funds last year.
A special committee was established to investigate if the mayor had breached the code of conduct for municipal councillors in terms of the Municipal Structures Act.
