Traditional leaders want land issue addressed urgently

Chiefs called for government to address the land issue with a sense of urgency at the Eastern Cape House of traditional leaders official opening in Bhisho on Friday.

Corporate governance and traditional affairs spokesperson, Mamkeli Ngam, said the house would support all efforts made by the three spheres of government to ensure that land was brought back to its original owners.

Ngam said: “We support land expropriation without compensation, land is about people retaining their dignity to be able to build houses and to have access to agricultural land for economic development.”

He said traditional leaders also wanted government to address the issue of land grabs in the province with immediate effect.
