Valgas close in on 7 stars’ lead

Valgas FC made a meal of bottom placed Two for Joy FC on Sunday when the two squared off in a stream B Safa regional league game of Sunday.

The Komani-based team beat the newly promoted Ilinge side 5-0 at the Dumpy, making it three games on the trot as they look to clinch the coveted playoff spot.

Valgas is currently fourth on the log, tied on 26 points with number three, Young Minds, but separated by a goal difference of three.

The two teams are behind the log leaders, 7 Stars FC, who now have 30 points after Molteno Cosmos were their latest victims, beating them 3-0 on Saturday.

MK Academy, who have quietly gone about their business, are second. On Saturday they dispatched Ezibeleni’s Roman Callies 3-0. The Academy has lost only one game in the past 14 they have played.

In stream B Mountain Shadow FC are still top of the log. However, they are now tied on 25 points with second-placed Hot Spurs after losing to fourth place Lucky Stars FC by 4-5 on Sunday.

Both Mountain Shadow and the Spurs have played 12 games, one less than Xalanga Blues FC who are in third with 22 points and Lucky Stars FC on fourth with 21 points.

As at the top, the battle to stay in the league is still wide open. Six points are the difference between bottom-placed Young Stars and Makhuze Royals who are sixth.
