China reports third day without new Covid-19 infections

China, the original epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak, is now reporting a third day of no new confirmed local transmission cases of the virus. This is according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

On Friday, WHO director general, Tedros Ghebreyesus twitted that the news of no new local transmissions offered hope in the fight against the virus which has now had more than 11000 fatalities worldwide.

“For the first time, China has reported no domestic Covid-19 cases yesterday. This is an amazing achievement, which gives us all reassurance that the Coronavirus can be beaten,” Ghebreyesus twitted.

According to China’s National Health Commission, on Friday, 41 new cases of Covid-19 were from people coming into the country, taking the total number of imported cases to 269.

The total numbers of infections in the country were 81,008 with 3,255 deaths by the end of Friday.
