Police are looking for an unknown number of suspects in connection with the murder of a 75-year-old man at Bittern farm.
The man, believed to be Charlie Hart, was a farmer in the Henderson area between Cathcart and Stutterheim, and was allegedly attacked in his home.
A resident who did not want to be identified said the tragic incident had shaken the community and he did not wish to comment any further.
The Rep spoke to another anonymous resident who also refused to comment, stating that information shared by people on social media about the incident was blown out of proportion.” The resident said they were still waiting for information from the police.
Provincial police spokesperson brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said police were investigating the circumstances of the incident, and that a case of murder and malicious damage to property had been opened.
“It is alleged that one of the farmers visited the house of the deceased on Sunday morning and on arrival he found the victim already dead. Police were summoned. It appears that the victim was assaulted. His vehicle was found abandoned and burnt,” said Kinana.
