
While Zimbabwe is gearing up to respond to the Coronavirus pandemic, the health care works who are supposed to be in the frontlines downed tools yesterday.
On Wednesday, CNN reported that doctors and nurses in the country had gone on protests because of shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE).
According to the broadcaster, Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association spokesperson, Tapiwa Zvakada, said: “We have decided to withdraw our services to allow for the administration to get requisite PPEs. We cannot continue to work without this. We also call upon the authorities to discuss with us the risk allowances because we are not spared by this disease.”
On Monday the country recorded its first death from the virus.
