ANTI-LITTER of Komani writes: France recently introduced new measures aimed at restricting toxins which emanate from plastic. While South Africa is probably not quite there yet, it’s something we’re going to have to start looking at. In addition, the devastating impact of plastic packets and containers on the environment can no longer be ignored. As a country, we need to limit plastic and the resultant pollution. A look around Komani should show even the most ignorant person that plastic packets and bags are a huge problem. Even the fish we eat apparently contain plastic due to the number of plastic packets found littering the oceans! Plastic bags must be done away with systematically and alternatives found. We owe it to our environment and our future. |
