AN UNDISCLOSED sum of money, cellphones and clothing were stolen from a retail chain store in Cathcart Road at gunpoint on Sunday.
The workers were tied up in the robbery, police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Police spokesman captain Namhla Mdleleni said two armed men allegedly entered the shop at about 1.30pm and demanded money and clothing.
“They managed to take an undisclosed sum of money from the till, cellphones and clothing and tied up the workers before running away.
“A case of armed robbery was opened but no arrests have been made.”
Boyfriend held for killing
In another incident, a 40- year-old man from Mlungisi handed himself over to police last Tuesday for allegedly killing his girlfriend.
“It is alleged the couple were fighting in their shack and the suspect assaulted the deceased with a heavy instrument. A case of murder has been opened and the suspect was arrested,” Mdleleni said.
Man dies after stabbing
The Ezibeleni police are investigating a case of murder after an unknown man was found with stab wounds on his upper body near a tavern last Wednesday.
Mdleleni said the man was taken to Frontier Hospital where he died on arrival.
A case of murder has been opened and no one has been arrested.
Police probe possible perjury over car theft report
The Komani vehicle identification unit is investigating a case of perjury in Cacadu (Lady Frere) after a man allegedly sold his car to a Burundi national and later reported it stolen to the police.
“Police investigated as the owner said his car had been stolen when he went from Komani to a shop in Cacadu.”
Police arrested and charged the man as he allegedly wanted to claim money from his insurance company. He will appear in court soon.
