THE date has been set for the much anticipated JJ Motors OC 10s rugby festival on January 28 next year.The event, which is a major attraction on the local calendar, is set to be played at the Thobi Kula Sports Complex.
The inaugural event captivated Komani with thousands of spectators flocking to the stadium. The event is community based with six teams representing their neighbourhoods, hence the slogan “Dala it for your hood.”
SPN Spartans will represent Sabata Dalinyebo, Popcorn Valley and New Vale with the Scorpions running on for the Lower Victoria Park and Vipers for Upper Victoria Park. Red Devils will represent New Rest with Aloe Ventures the proud face of Aloevale and Mlungisi. City Samurai will be the suburbs and the army base team.
Next year’s event promises to be bigger and better with plans to bring one of the Blitzbokke stars to town. The local vendors will also given the opportunity to showcase and sell their goodies at the venue with Live music and fun activities for children.
There are also plans to include netball next year. The event is being endorsed by Border Rugby Union with the Queenstown Referee Society in charge of all matches. Spartans won the inaugural event, beating City Samurai in the final this year.
