A MLUNGISI family has been left in mourning following the find of the body of a Khayelitsha man, allegedly with bite marks to his arms and body, on Friday.
Mthetheleli Dila was found by neighbours in the street where the family home is located.
His sister, Buyiswa, speaking to The Rep this week, said the family was woken at 5am by people reporting the find.
“I did not want to go, I gave my brother Vusumzi a sheet with which to cover him. He then reported the case to the police station.”
Buyiswa said Dila had returned home at 6 pm on Thursday, excited about receiving his wages from a gardening job he did at a house in Magxaki.
“When we had finished eating supper after 8 I saw him through my bedroom door giving water to his puppy which he got a few days ago. He then said he was on his way out.”
She was surprised that he did not return home, while no-one heard him scream.
“Our street is busy people are always walking up and down because there is a tavern.”
She said her brothers’ friends had since indicated that he had left their place at 11pm and had been on his way home.
She said police and forensic detectives took photos of five dogs that were nearby and also spoke to their owners.
At present, however, she said nobody knew what had bitten him as the case was still being investigated.
“We are in shock. After the funeral we will follow through on the matter.”
Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said an inquest had been opened.
