THE task team established by Komani cluster commander Major-General Sakhele Dyantyi over the festive season to fight crime in the 27 police stations in the cluster continues to make inroads.
Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said police discovered a plantation of dagga at the back of a house in Ntabethemba last Friday at about 5am.
Two suspects, aged 37 and 57, were arrested for dealing in dagga. They appeared in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were released on bail while the investigation continues.
“The task team also found drugs in a house in Cacadu (Lady Frere) on Friday. It was the third time they had found drugs in the same house since they started operating last year. Three suspects aged between 37 and 43 were arrested. They were charged with possession and dealing in drugs.”
In a separate incident, Mdleleni said, the flying squad and the K9 units arrested a 53-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Acting cluster commander Brigadier Phumla Mavuka commended the work of the task team, which operated under the command of Warrant-Officer Mpumzi Mene.
