Nine people have died after a minibus collided head on with a truck on the R63 between Komga and Bhisho this afternoon, writes Zwanga Mukhuthu.
The driver of the taxi and the truck driver are among those killed. Seven adults and two children are confirmed among the victims.
Health Department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said two male passengers, one from the minibus and the other from the truck, survived and were airlifted to Frere Hospital in East London.
Kupelo said emergency officials were on the scene.
According to Eastern Cape traffic spokesman Charles Bramwell, the crash occurred shortly after 3pm about 50km from East London.
The taxi was en route to Cape Town and was believed to have been carrying mourners to a funeral.
Police said a case of culpable homicide was registerd at the Komga police station.
