Cope calls on Minister Dlamini ‘to go’

THE  Congress of the People (Cope) has told Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini to “just go!”

In a statement by Cope national chairman and member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, Pakes Dikgesti, following the ongoing welfare grant payout debacle which has rocked the country, said “our people cannot suffer because of Minister Bathabile Dlamini’s illegal deals, ignorance and incompetence.”

Cope was calling for Dlamini’s resignation, saying she was putting the welfare of South Africans in jeopardy.

“Dlamini must take responsibility for her actions, do the right thing and go.”

Cope would soon be laying criminal charges against Dlamini, he said.

“It was in 2014 when the Constitutional Court declared the contract of Cash Paymaster Service (CPS) invalid and unlawful. The court also gave the Department of Social Development time limit to build its own capacity, advertise and put this service in the open for interested parties to tender. But as usual, this government decided to turn a blind eye. Dlamini also ignored the verdict. Now our people have to suffer because of her greediness.”
