CHRIS Hani District Municipality executive mayor Kholiswa Vimbayo hosted Argentina’s Ambassador to South Africa, Javier Figueroa, during the implementation of the heads of agreement of Bilateral Agreement on cooperation in the field of agriculture which was signed in 2013, in the district on Thursday.
The Joe Gqabi District Municipality was also part of the luncheon at Roydon on Thursday as it also has similar agreements with Argentina. “Among the key elements of the agreement is the establishment of Rural Agro-Industries and Financial Initiative. This is a sequel to a business to business engagement undertaken at a district level in 2016 to the Republic of Argentina aimed at lobbying for strategic business partners to take part in the agricultural activities in the district,” communication and media relations manager Thobeka Mqamelo said in a statement.
This followed on challenges of stagnant growth and high mortality rate of agricultural co-operatives within the Chris Hani Co-operative Development Centre support system with the aim to secure future markets and possible investments.
