TENSION reigns in the town of Cathcart as a result of a service delivery protest.
Not much information is known at this time, but the protest is believed to be related to dissatisfaction with service tariffs and a demand for water supply to areas which are without water. Cathcart falls under the Amahlati municipality.
Reports are that stones have been packed in the main road with litter strewn in the town.
Police spokesman Captain Namhla Mdleleni has indicated that the Public Order Policing Services Unit and the Cathcart Police are on the scene in the town to monitor the situation.
Mdleleni said cases of intimidation and malicious damage to property have been opened.
Motorists travelling along the N6 are asked to proceed with caution. The N6 is open.
