KOMANI beauty queen,
Bokveld , 18, has been appointed as the Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa ambassador for 2017-18.
Bokveld did not win the crown at the pageant at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria on Saturday, but was acknowledged for her contribution by being appointed as the ambassador for next year’s competition.
Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa is in its fourth year and the main cash prize was R15000 plus other prizes. The pageant aims to create a platform for women of all ages to become charity and culture ambassadors in South Africa and the broader international community.
The title holders will be involved in charity events.
“The journey was amazing; I was very proud and honoured to be representing Komani throughout the competition. I may have brought back a sash and a tiny crown but I believe we all worked hard for it and we are all winners.”
The young women were judged on their pre-pageant scores, interview scores and on stage scores. Micaela Govender was crowned Miss Teen Commonwealth SA 2017, with Palesa Bhebhe as the first princess and Kebalepile Ramafoko as second princess.
“I have learned entrepreneurial skills and I have grown as a young woman. I have also learnt how to be a fast thinker. The journey does not end here for me – it is just the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” she said.
Bokveld thanked her family, friends and sponsors for their support.
