The Ilinge Women’s Victim Centre will host an awareness campaign on May 22 to reach out to women who are in abusive relationships.
Centre manager Xolile Mali said there was a need to educate women about their rights which could, in turn, help them to escape being victimised by their partners.
“There is a lot of abuse happening in our communities and so we are busy planning on how we can remind people that they do not have to stay in these toxic relationships.
“There are a lot of people in rural communities and townships that do not have any information or know what to do when they are trapped in such a situation.”
He said they were engaging with other stakeholders. “We are inviting other organisations to come and talk about drugs and hopefully we will also have the Correctional Services, Police and Community Police Forums. The churches will also be there because they play a big role in our community.”
