Komani police attend national conference

YOUNG members of the SAPS from the Komani and Comfimvaba clusters are off to Pretoria tomorrow to attend the first SAPS youth conference which will be attended by approximately 1500 members under the age of 35.

Komani cluster commander Major-General Thembisile Patekile said the aim was to engage young people in fighting against crime. “They have been called by the national commissioner. Our prisons and police cells are full of young people. The energy that should be used to develop and protect the people of the country is wasted in taverns.”

He said they hoped to groom future SAPS leaders. “The challenge is to try and change the mind of young people in leading crime fighting. We have a Vision 2030 which is when we want to see everyone feeling safe in their communities.”
