The police are seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the mother of a newborn baby boy found at 4.50pm in the back yard of a house in Vries Street in Stutterheim yesterday.

Police spokesman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said the occupants of the home had heard a baby crying and went to investigate. They found the baby boy nearby and contacted the police. He was taken by an ambulance to hospital where he is being kept.

A case of child abandonment has been registered at Stutterheim SAPS but to date police has been unable to track down the baby’s mother.
