Mobile police unit for Cofimvaba

The South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape will be handing over a mobile police unit to serve the Cofimvaba community next week.

In a statement, the police said the Eastern Cape was one of the most vast and rural provinces. Community members in rural areas travelled long distances to report crime and to access services like certifying documents and making affidavits.

“It is against this background that the provincial management saw the need to assist rural communities with the placement of  mobile police units at strategic points. The mobile  contact points can be driven to various localities to ensure that community members do not travel long distances for policing services.”

The mobile police units are also in line with the SAPS Back to Basics policing approach principles of which one is to to enhance police visibility and services.   Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Weziwe Tikana will together with the Eastern Cape Provincial Management Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga hand over a mobile police unit to the Cofimvaba community and will utilise the opportunity to engage local community members on issues regarding their safety at the Ncorha Tribal Authority in Cofimvaba at 10am on Wednesday.
