The Queenstown and Frontier Museum Picture: FILE

THE Queenstown and Frontier Museum was originally started by Reverend C.M. Hodges who in July 1933 persuaded the then town council to appoint a sub-committee to look at the establishment of a museum.

The first museum committee was, according to the book ‘Tell Me of Komani’ by Alan Greaves, headed by Council N.M. Mallet. Donations of artefacts were originally kept in a room next to the library building, but in 1963, the museum was proclaimed.

The Old Preparatory School building in Shepstone Street was identified as a site and the building was originally used as both a museum and an art gallery. In 1977, the art gallery picutres were moved to a new building in Ebden Street (which now houses the Chris Hani Craft Hub).

The Queenstown and Frontier Museum is currently undergoing massive renovations to restore it to its former glory. It houses various exhibitions with great historical value.
