THE Eastern Cape police is planning a memorial service for five policemen who were gunned down in the attack on the Ngcobo police station earlier this week.
The five – Warrant Officer Zuko Mbini, Constable Sibongiseni Sandlana, 32, Constable Nkosiphendule Pongco, 32, Constable Kuhle Mathetha, 27 and Constable Zuko Ntsheku, 38 – were shot dead by a group of armed men who had entered the station in the early hours of Wednesday morning, shortly after an ATM had been robbed in the same town.

The name of a retired soldier who was also shot dead, has not yet been released.
The attackers stole 10 firearms and fled in a police van, abducting two members, who were later found shot dead.
The Daily Dispatch reported today that four suspects, who had allegedly tried to book into a bed and breakfast in Komani, offering identity documents which did not correspond with their names, had been taken in for questioning.
The police indicated in a statement earlier today that Police Minister Fikile Mbalula and National Commissioner General Khehla Sitole would be in attendance – as would members of the SAPS senior national and provincial management – at the service in the Ngcobo Methodist Church at 8am on Tuesday, February 27.
