KOMANI residents are facing the reality that dark, cold nights and days without power await after a transformer blew this morning.
Residents faced the same situation in January and were left without power for several days.
Adre Bartis of the Border Kei Chamber of Business said that Eskom had indicated that it had a transformer which could be used but it first had to be determined if it was able to carry the power supply load for the area.
She said the related costs would have to be determined as the transformer would have to be transported from East London.
As this morning’s blaze had been extinguished, the water had also mixed with the oil which now had to be drained from the existing transformer.
It is unclear at present for how long Komani will be without electricity.
