A CONTRACTOR is on his way from East London to Komani to assess the situation with the Ebden Street transformer which exploded this morning.
Adre Bartis of the Border Kei Chamber of Business said an earlier option of using one of Eskom’s transformers would not be pursued due to related ‘red tape’ involved in the process.
She said following a meeting with stakeholders it had been decided to get a contractor from East London.
In nearby Ezibeleni, a lack of oil in the transformer had also resulted in an outage with technicians attending to the matter during the day.
It remains unclear when Komani’s power will be restored and for how many days the outage will continue.
