The whole of Komani is without electricity.
The Ebden Street substation was on fire earlier on with the road closed off to traffic. A new substation on the premises is believed to be leaking oil and it is unsure whether it can be used.
Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality spokesman Fundile Feketshane said in an earlier phone call that the problem was due to overloading and that the municipality was investigating. He said he was unable to indicate when the electricity would be restored.
At this stage it is not clear for how long the power will be off, with The Rep unable to confirm speculations on social media that it could take up to five days to fix.
