Fires are burning in several streets of Ezibeleni, including the access points, from early this morning.
The Rep senior reporter Andisa Bonani is on the scene and said a heavy police presence is in place.
The protest is believed to be related to unhappiness with two Ezibeleni councillors.
Unconfirmed reports are that arrests have been made.
