Life for killers of Elliotdale police head

Two men convicted of the murder of Elliiotdale police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Nomalizo Dukumbana have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Phumzile Ngqayimbana, 46, and Siyamcela Ntshitshi, 38, were both sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, six years for possession of illegal firearms and three years for unlawful possession of ammunition by the Mthatha High Court on Monday.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Dukumbana was shot dead in December 2013 in the police barracks.

In September 2014, a former constable who worked in Elliotdale, Noxolo Matya, 37, was also sentenced to life imprisonment at the Mthatha High Court for the murder. She was also sentenced to a further 18 years’ imprisonment on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

The trials of the other two suspects have been ongoing since then.
