Unrest has gripped the small town of Sterkstroom with the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality building in the town’s main street set alight.
A resident, who wants to remain anonymous, said tyres had also been burning in the streets since early today, following similar protests last week. Streets have been blockaded.
The reason for the protest is not known but it is believed to be service-delivery related.
Police spokesman Captain Namhla Mdleleni has confirmed that the police are on the scene and monitoring the situation.
